Promoting Health and Learning at Betances in Hartford

It was great to meet Ms. Barnaby at Dr. Ramon E. Betances Elementary School today as we dropped off 20 CareKits for students and families in need. Betances Elementary School, located in the heart of Hartford, CT, is a Pre-K to 4th grade Learning Lab School with a clear mission: to foster early literacy development in every child.

The school is not only a place of learning for students, but also a professional development center for educators. Teachers from across the district look to Betances as a model for implementing effective reading instruction. The staff is deeply committed to preparing students to read fluently and confidently by the end of fourth grade, with the goal of achieving or surpassing proficiency on the Smarter Balanced Assessment (SBAC).

Walking through the halls, it’s easy to sense the strong culture of care and academic purpose. We’re grateful to have had the opportunity to support the Betances community with CareKits that promote dignity and health, and we look forward to continuing this partnership.
