Caring with Dignity: Supporting The Open Hearth in Hartford

What a joy it was to meet Alexis, the dedicated Director of Development at The Open Hearth in Hartford, Connecticut. CareKit Community had the privilege of donating 30 hygiene kits to support the incredible work being done at this organization.

Each kit included basic but essential items like soap, shampoo, deodorant, toothpaste, and bandages—small comforts that can make a big difference in someone’s daily life.

The Open Hearth has been a vital part of the Hartford community since 1884. Its mission is to help men experiencing homelessness gain the tools they need to reclaim their lives. By offering transitional and supportive housing, substance recovery services, mental health counseling, job readiness programs, healthcare access, and more, The Open Hearth creates a comprehensive environment where individuals can restore their self-respect and dignity.

The men served by The Open Hearth are working toward a new beginning, and it is organizations like these that remind us how deeply human compassion, consistency, and community care can impact lives.
